Building and Remodeling Your Own Home by the Owner Builder Center

Before we, or anybody else, will lend you money as an "owner contractor" or "owner builder," you must show that you are qualified. Your qualifications must be stated in the form of a resume. The following list are some of the acceptable methods of qualifying.

Licensed Contractor
Journeyman in the building trades
Hiring a contractor as a project manager
Attending the Owner Builder Centers Housebuilding Classes

If you are building in a distant location from the Owner Builder Center, you may have to fly out to Sacramento, California to attend our housebuilding training. We will provide on-going support during your building project, but you need to attend to get the basics.

We understand that it will cost you a few hundred dollars to fly out here, but think of the bigger picture. If you can save 20% or more on the construction of your home, the money you spend on airfare and hotels will seem insignificant in comparison. Remember, planning and preparation are not the areas to cut corners. Every dime you spend building your home on paper will come back tenfold.
